Apple may finally get clearance for stores in India

India has liberalized rules for foreign companies to set up retail stores

Apple may finally get clearance to set up its stores in India, following the Indian government’s decision Monday to liberalize rules requiring local sourcing of some products sold in foreign-owned, single-brand stores.
The iPhone maker operates in the country through third-party owned, exclusive stores run by partners like Imagine, in addition to selling through retail chains and online e-commerce websites. But Apple considers the design and layout of its own stores a key element of its branding and retail experience.
The Indian government, in a statement Monday, said the local sourcing requirements, which had been a hurdle for Apple to get clearance for its own branded stores, have been relaxed for up to three years. The new rules include a relaxed “sourcing regime” for an additional five years introduced for “entities undertaking single-brand retail trading of products having ‘state-of-art’ and ‘cutting edge’ technology.”
The government could not be immediately reached for details of the new scheme.
Local authorities had earlier required that foreign-owned, single-brand retailers source 30 percent of their products locally but had indicated it could waive that rule for vendors of hi-tech products. Apple had applied for such an exemption but the proposal was opposed by the country’s Finance Ministry.
Apple will probably now apply under the new rules, which would give it a better chance to get clearance for the stores. The company could not be immediately reached for comment.
India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in May that her ministry did not oppose a waiver of the retail rule to high-tech companies like Apple and would discuss the matter with the Finance Ministry. The new rules appear to be a compromise worked within the government, in which some sections are opposed to trading only in imported products and in favor of requiring their local manufacture.
A number of smartphone vendors have started making their products in India and Apple’s CEO Tim Cook is said to have spoken of the “possibilities of manufacturing and retailing in India” during a recent meeting with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The company has not, however, announced plans for making phones in India.
Another Apple proposal, to import and sell low-cost refurbished phones in India to price-sensitive users, has not been cleared. Sitharaman had said her ministry was not in favor of the company’s plans for the import of the refurbished phones. The proposal had earlier been criticized by the Environment Ministry, which was worried that the phones would be close to their end of life and pose a recycling problem.
Apple sees India as a big opportunity for the company as its iPhone sales grew 56 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter in the country, though from a small base and mainly older products, even as its worldwide phone sales dipped.

WAJAH BABY YG MENGEJUTKAN?DAN SYAWAL BUAT SUATU YG BUAT FIKA MENANGIS?

Juara program realiti Pelamin Fantasia, Syawal dan Fiqa telah mengadakan sesi fotografi sempena kelahiran anak s
hulung mereka, Sofia Azzahra.

Best phone 2016: the 10 top smartphones we've tested

Helping you choose the best mobile phone since 2008

Best phone 2016
Update: There's a new entry in our 10 best smartphones in the world. Congratulations to the OnePlus 3. Just where has it placed? Read on to find out.
  • If you're just here to see how good the iPhone is compared to the rest, then perhaps you'd be more interested in our best iPhone list
  • Or if you couldn't care less what Apple is doing with its handsets but love Google's OS, then our best Android phone round up is right up your street.
So we're well into 2016, and the big phones have mostly arrived. The OnePlus 3 joins the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 EdgeLG G5 and HTC 10 in our list of, frankly, amazing smartphones.
Luckily for you, at TechRadar we check out every phone under the sun, putting the ones that matter through our rigorously vigorous testing process to create our in-depth mobile phone reviews.
With so many to choose from, we've spent hours whittling them down to a top ten, taking into account the power, specs, design and, most importantly, value for money, although we'll always point you in the direction of the latest handsets to help you find the best smartphone.
After all, nobody wants to be carting around a phone that won't be getting any updates in a year's time, right?
So whether it's one of the many slick Android handsets or the latest iPhone (although we do keep an eye on the best Windows Phone and BlackBerry devices) we've got the best of the best listed here, in our rankings for the best smartphones around, currently available in the UK.

Z5 Compact

10. Sony Xperia Z5 Compact

A compact beast with a splendid price
Weight: 138g | Dimensions: 127 x 65 x 8.9 mm | OS: Android Marshmallow |Screen size: 4.6-inch | Resolution: 720 x 1280 | CPU: Snapdragon 810 | RAM:2GB | Storage: 32GB | Battery: 2700mAh | Rear camera: 23MP | Front camera:5.1MP
 Compact design
 Impressive camera
 Still a 720p screen
 No wireless charging
The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is another in the line of smaller handsets from the Japanese brand, packing in all the power into a smaller, more manageable phone.
It's got all the same power credentials as the Xperia Z5 and Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, but has the added bonus of being a lot more pocketable.
The main reason you'd go for this phone is that it's a dinkier device, with a 4.6-inch screen combined with the strong camera, waterproofed chassis and allows you to hear all your audio in beautiful upscaled sound quality.
Battery life could be better, but it's no worse than a lot on this list - and Sony certainly has a unique design that plenty like to fondle.

Also consider: If you're not a fan of the size of this phone, the Sony Xperia Z5'normal' packs the same great camera, waterproofing and Hi-Res Audio as the larger version, but in a more easy-to-handle frame.

Phone 7 release date, news and rumors

Everything you need to know about Apple's new iPhone

iPhone 7 what we want to see
UpdateWe have new iPhone 7 release date and feature rumors, following Apple WWDC 2016. Fresh reports say it'll ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack and be thinner, but otherwise look the same.
iPhone 7 rumors are all over the place, and the good news is Apple's supposed to deliver a significant upgrade to its smartphone for 2016. "Supposed to" because it changes the design every two years.
Without a doubt, iPhone 6S is the company's best phone yet. But it's underwhelming because it doesn't bring anything amazing aside from fancy new 3D Touch technology. It's just too similar to the iPhone 6.
So there's a understandable yearning for sweeping iPhone 7 changes for its launch date in a few weeks: think a whole new design, piles of power and a bunch of new features.
The leaks, rumors and reports are already ramping up, and we've got all the information that you could possibly need about the September-bound iPhone 7 release date.
We've collected all the latest from around the web, sifted through the likelihood of each rumor and given you our expert take on what to expect from Apple's launch - so read on to find the authoritative take on your possible next phone.
  • Fancy Android? Here's our full review of the Samsung Galaxy S7. Looking for something smaller? Then you'll want to check out the iPhone SE - while ouriPhone 7 Plus rumors page should cover all your big screen needs.
In a rush? Get the latest iPhone 7 news in our video roundup below:

Cut to the chase

  • What is it? A rebooted iPhone, with new powers, features and design
  • When is it out? Almost nailed on for September 2016
  • What will it cost? Very likely the same as the iPhone 6S

iPhone 7 release date

If we were betting folk, we'd bet the house on the fact the iPhone 7 will launch in September 2016. Apple sticks to a schedule and the last few iPhones have all been launched in the month of September.
Oh, there's a possibility it could be earlier, as according to a 'reliable source'Apple might actually bring it to market earlier. Sadly, how much earlier is unclear and we hear this rumor every year. It never happens.
It will take a while to finish development and manufacturer of the phone, so we wouldn't expect to see it before September. Autumn is exactly when iOS 10 is due. It just makes sense for September.

iPhone 7 design

Hottest leaks:
  • No headphone jack
  • Water resistance
  • Bezel-less metal body
iPhone 6S looked a lot like the iPhone 6 and while we were expecting big design changes for the iPhone 7, we've got bad news for Apple fans: it might be very similar outside of a few tweaks here and there.
It's said to be slimmer than the 7.1mm-thick iPhone 6S; Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities reckons it'll drop to between 6mm and 6.5mm. That sounds unnecessarily slim to us, especially as it could cause the battery life to take a hit, but the Samsung Galaxy S6 is only marginally thicker at 6.8mm, so it's possible.
If TSMC makes the chips, as has been rumored, then some space could be saved, which might help Apple slim it down without making sacrifices in other areas. Another report claims Apple will use fan-out technology to save space andreduce the thickness of the iPhone 7.
Slimming down the iPhone 7 could mean Apple will have to ditch the bulky 3.5mm headphone jack. That could lead to a great dependence on Bluetooth headphones, but another leak suggests there will also be a pair of special Apple earbuds included in the iPhone 7 retail box.

iPhone 7 headphone jack

Don't ditch your headphones just yet though, as an image supposedly showing iPhone 7 circuitry has emerged and the 3.5mm jack is intact in it. Removing the jack could do more harm than good, especially in the short term, so we doubt it will happen.
Another rumor suggests the iPhone 7 will have an all-metal design with a bezel-less display. It would be a big change for the iPhone design, but bringing in a new kind of screen technology would be a sensible move for Apple. However, new reports claim an iPhone overhaul is being saved for 2017.

iPhone 7

The iPhone 7 could be built to last too, as according to Mac Otakara there are a number of iPhone prototypes with "ruggedized" features, which could mean a water and dust-resistant phone is on the way.
In fact, that's exactly what we'll get according to a supply chain source. Yet another suggestion of a waterproof iPhone 7 comes from the Apple supplier Japan Display. The supplier has come up with a new technology called "Pixel Eyes", that is now in its second generation and makes it easier to use the screen while you have wet fingers.
However, another report has suggested Apple will opt for a slimmer phone rather than a waterproof iPhone 7. Apple will likely get a new LCD display technology as well, which could allow the iPhone 7 to be 1mm thinner than before.
A design tweak rumor which will likely please many is that Apple will ditch the camera bump which has been present since the iPhone 6/6 Plus - with the firm going for a sleeker finish on the iPhone 7. As well as being totally flat the back could also be uninterrupted, as the same report points towards the removal of the antenna bands.
That tallies with an image leak picked up by Nowhereelse.fr, which claims its snapshot shows the iPhone 7 to have no antenna bands and a larger camera.
